What is foam insulation used for?

It suits new builds and renovations where space is tight and you still want a strong thermal result. Because it is compact and rigid, foam works well where you need thermal performance without giving up much room. Common uses across this range include:

• Walls, both internal and external, including thin build ups where batts will not fit
• Roofs and soffits
• Underfloor and between floors
• Sheds, garages and commercial fitouts

Some products in this range are made for specific jobs. The air cell rolls, for example, are commonly used as a thermal break in metal framed walls and in timber framed roofs, while the insulated plasterboard is suited to a wide range of commercial projects where you want to line and insulate a wall in one step.

How do I choose between the options?

The range splits into three groups, and the best choice depends on your surface and how much thickness you have to work with:

• Rigid foam boards for a firm, cut to fit board across walls, roofs and floors
• Insulated plasterboard, such as the Kingspan Kooltherm K17, which combines a foam core with a plasterboard face for lining walls in one step
• Reflective air cell rolls for a flexible layer that adds a thermal break and a vapour control benefit

R values and thicknesses vary from product to product, so open the individual product page to see the exact rating, sizes and options before you order. The air cell and plasterboard products are available in more than one thickness, so check the options on the page to find the build up that fits your wall or floor.
