What is pipe lagging used for?
Pipe lagging, also called pipe insulation or pipe wrap, is fitted around pipes to control temperature, cut condensation and reduce noise. Common uses include:
- Retaining heat on hot water and heating pipes
- Preventing sweating and condensation on cold water and chilled lines
- Reducing water noise from pipes running through walls and ceilings
- Protecting pipework where fire performance is required
Which type of pipe insulation should I choose?
Our range covers four main groups, so the best choice depends on temperature, noise and fire needs.
- Elastomeric closed cell foam, such as the Thermotec E-Flex ST, suits HVAC, refrigeration and general plumbing. It comes in tube, coil and sheet form, with self seal options, and can be used continuously at 110 degrees Celsius.
- Fire rated foil faced foam, the 4Zero pre-slit tube, is built for commercial hot and cold water systems and achieves a zero rating when tested to AS/NZS1530.3.
- Mineral rock wool sectional insulation is non-combustible, made from spun volcanic rock, with a maximum service temperature of 650 degrees Celsius, so it suits boilers, industrial plant and fire rated walls.
- Acoustic pipe lagging uses a mass loaded vinyl and foil facing with a decoupling layer to reduce noise break-out from pipes, valves and ductwork.
What sizes and thicknesses are available?
Sizes and wall thicknesses vary by product and are chosen on each product page. For example, the Thermotec E-Flex ST elastomeric foam is listed with internal diameters from 9mm to 114mm and wall thicknesses from 9mm to 38mm, while the 4Zero fire rated foil faced tube is listed with internal diameters from 13mm to 102mm and wall thicknesses from 15mm to 50mm. Rock wool sectional insulation is preformed to suit copper and steel pipe in a range of diameters and thicknesses. Open the product you are interested in to see the exact sizes and to select your options.
Do you supply related insulation?
Yes. If your project also involves ductwork, see our duct insulation range, and for products where fire performance is the priority, browse our fire rated insulation category. Our team can help match pipe lagging to the rest of your build.
